Note: Unfortunately, there has yet to be a military school for girls only.
Since military schools are strict, structured, and staffed with disciplined people, you might think it is the ideal place to send your troubled child to. However, in reality, military schools are not meant to correct troubled behavior.
Most military schools have selective admission. Boys and girls that will cause trouble will not be tolerated. They either get denied upon admission application or expelled quickly after enrolling. So, do not try to look for a military school for bad kids.
Note: If your child has behavioral concerns, you should look for a therapeutic school or a residential treatment center instead. You can also consider summer camps.
Research by tuition feeTuition fee is another factor that you can consider researching. The total fees range from $0 to $90,950.50. The large price range is the result of many factors, but mainly the type of school: charter, public, private, etc.
Note: Schools that are free of charge are usually open to specific state residents or very selective.

How Much Does Military School Cost?
Tuition for army schools can run from $25,000 to $50,000 a year. I know it can be discouraging, but there is some help out there. Click here to find a military school near you, then read on for more information about how to pay for a military academy.
Ways Parents Pay for Military School
Scholarships, grants, loans, and school financing are the most common ways that parents pay for military school for their child. It’s reassuring to know that there are several options, but in some instances parents need to get creative. We have listed some creative ideas toward the end of this article.
Whatever options you chose, start applying early and be persistent. Stay in contact with the key people in charge of financial aid or administrators of scholarships and grants.
1. Apply for Scholarships
Most military schools have benefactors and scholarships available to help pay for tuition, books, uniforms, and fees. Some schools offer need-based scholarships, some offer merit-based scholarships, and some schools offer both. Some schools also offer scholarships to kids who have parents that are members of the military.
Merit-based scholarships may be offered to individuals who are academically proficient and show intellectual growth, or who show great character and leadership. They also may be offered to kids who excel in sports or the arts.
Needs-based scholarships are based on the financial statements of the primary caretaker. Churches and employers also sometimes offer scholarships so remember to check with them.
Apply early and keep in touch regularly by email. Persistence can make a difference.
2. Request Grants
Since military schools are private, they do not receive money from state tax dollars and instead fall under The National Association of Independent Schools, or NAIS. The NAIS is a non-profit membership association that provides grants to students who are in good academic standing or demonstrate a financial need. Contact the school you’re interested in for more information about how to apply.
3. Apply for Bank & Financial Institution (FI) Loans
Loans to help pay for military school can come from a private bank or a financial institution. Check with your bank to see if they offer private loans for military school. Be sure to check around for the best interest rates. Variable rates are usually lower, but if interest rates rise you could be in for a couple hundred dollar increase in your payment. You’ll have to do your research to see if a fixed or variable rate is best for you.
Financial institutions such as Sallie Mae also offer private student loans. You will need to have a good credit score to qualify for a private student loan. Unfortunately federal student loans, which usually have lower interest rates, are not offered for military school.
Can I apply for a loan under my student? The answer is no, you as a parent cannot apply for a loan under your student’s name. Parents will have to apply for an educational loan under their own name.
Can I apply for a personal loan as a parent? Yes, you can apply for a personal loan to pay for military school for your child.
4. Schools May Offer Financing
Some military schools offer financing if you are running out of options. Check with the school you are interested in. Instead of paying it all up front at the beginning of the year, they may work with you on making monthly payments throughout the school year.
The school’s finance office will set up a written agreement which shows the amount the payments will be each month. A down payment will most likely be needed to ensure your child’s admission into the school. The nice thing about financing with the military schools is that interest is not charged.
5. Research Insurance Coverage
Is Military school covered by insurance? No, unfortunately military school is not covered by any insurance; however, certain expenses such as medical care and mental health treatment may be covered.
The general rule is that in order for insurance to cover all or part of the costs, the facility must be medical in nature and offer some level of health services. Military schools do not meet these criteria, but residential treatment centers usually do.
6. Creative Funding Solutions
For parents who are determined, here are some alternative options to pay for this important structured situation your child needs.
- Ask friends and family. Perhaps there are grandparents, aunts, uncles, or family members who would be willing to offer assistance, especially if they have seen the struggles your family is experiencing.
- Start a GoFundMe. Many times friends and family are willing to contribute.
- Request funds from your church or place of worship. Some churches or religious institutions offer small grants, scholarships, and financial help to members or members of the community.
- Teens who are adopted may use their adoption subsidy. If your child is adopted from the foster care system, the subsidy can be used to pay for military school. You may need to put in a request for the subsidy to be increased to cover part of the cost.
- Refinance your house. It’s extreme, but some parents choose to take out a loan from the equity in their house to cover this additional education expense for their son or daughter.
Are you at your ends rope trying to get the proper care and schooling for your child? If so, we can relate. Just know that there are options, and persistence is key.
Have you already been trying to get your child into a military school? Have you been able to get financial help for military school? Please comment below. We would love to hear your experience.
If you have exhausted all options and realize that military school is not feasible for your child, read about other residential treatment options. Read about how to fund these other residential treatment options here.

Valor, courage and honor are exactly what the boys want when they dream of entering the Suvorov Military School. They are not afraid of the difficulties that await them in the cadet, they dream of wearing shoulder straps from a very young age and, when the time comes, change them for officers. And there are a lot of such boys - the competition for admission to Suvorov sometimes reaches five, or even seven people for one place. That is why it is better to prepare in advance for admission so that the dream can become a reality.
Who can enter the Suvorov Military School?
The very first and most important condition for admission to the Suvorov Military School (SVU) or the Cadet Corps (KK) is citizenship of the Russian Federation. In accordance with the order of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, boys and girls under the age of 15 years old (as of December 31 of the year of admission) can enter the Suvorov and Nakhimov Schools, after the 4th, 8th and 9th grades of the secondary general education school in year of admission. Different Suvorov schools have different requirements for the age of applicants, the only thing that remains unchanged is that after 15 years, Suvorov students definitely do not take.
Another important condition for admission is good health . The suitability of a state of health for training in a military school is determined by doctors. Only with the conclusion of the military medical commission in hand can one submit documents to Suvorovskoye. At the same time, there are quite a few reasons for rejection for health reasons:
- Serious infectious diseases: hepatitis C or B, HIV infection, tuberculosis in any form; Various neoplasms, with the exception of nevi, which do not interfere with wearing clothes;
- Various diseases of the endocrine system, including obesity of 3 and 4 degrees; Serious blood diseases such as hemophilia, leukemia and the like; A serious decrease in immunity, if there is a history of frequent acute respiratory viral infections that occurred with complications;
- Various skin diseases, eg psoriasis, vitiligo, neurodermatitis;
- Any mental disorder; Diseases of the nervous system;
- Serious visual impairment, even strabismus; Systematic and chronic diseases of the ear, for example, frequent purulent otitis media;
- Diseases of the respiratory system, in particular - bronchial asthma;
- Acute and chronic diseases of the digestive system, such as stomach ulcers or gallstones;
- Diseases of the skeletal and muscular systems, in particular, now widespread scoliosis of 2-3 degrees;
- Serious diseases of the genitourinary system, including; Severe congenital anomalies.
However, physicians will review each case on a case-by-case basis and make a decision based on current health and disease prospects. Therefore, it makes sense to think about how to enter the Suvorov School and prepare for admission even if there is some kind of chronic disease. The main thing is to have a desire to become an officer.
Where and what documents to apply to enter the Suvorov Military School?
Documents for admission according to the list, which is better to check on the website of the selected school or at the local military registration and enlistment office, must be sent to the admissions office of the school in the period from April 15 to May 15 of the year of admission. Although the military registration and enlistment office will explain everything in detail and help you draw up an application, it is still better to know the list of necessary documents in advance. 8. A copy of the applicant's medical insurance policy, certified by a notary.

Basic conditions for admission
Each educational institution has its own rules and requirements for the admission of students. However, there are also common ones for all schools.
The first and most important thing in order to enter is the presence of citizenship of the Russian Federation. The same rule applies to those entering the cadet corps.
They usually accept children after 4, 8 and after 9 grades.
The state of health is also extremely important for applicants. Children with health problems are not accepted to these educational institutions, because classes require a certain level of physical fitness.
Before admission, a mandatory medical examination is carried out, which has a decisive role in admission. After the conclusion of the medical commission, a decision is made on admission to the Suvorov School by the selection committee.
From what age do they accept
Children of different ages are accepted for training. Each school has its own requirements.
Basically, they accept children after the 4th grade (10-11 years old), after the 8th and 9th grades (14-15 years old) of the secondary general education school and lyceums.
[advice] Please note: there is also an important addition regarding the age limit of the child. After 15 years, children are not accepted.[/advice]
In some institutions there is the possibility of admission after the 5th grade. This is discussed individually.
When and what exams to take
To get into training, the applicant must pass the entrance exams. Each educational institution has its own list of required documents, including the required exams.
Exams are held from 1 to 15 August each year. They usually pass papers in the Russian language, mathematics, and are also selected for physical training.
In some institutions there is a selection preference for those who graduated from school with "excellent". Such children are given the opportunity to enter without entrance examinations.
The order of admission is established in each educational institution individually.
How much does tuition cost
Each school offers its own tuition fees.
Information on payment for educational services can be found on the website of the required school.
The cost depends not only on the chosen specialty, but also on the region in which the institution is located.
Studying at the Suvorov School for Girls
Recruitment for study is made on a competitive basis. You can arrange a child regardless of gender.
The main requirement is the age of no more than 15 years.
Just like boys, girls must collect a full package of documents, after which, based on the exams passed and the results of the medical examination, admission is made to the course in the chosen specialty.
Some institutions conduct special physical tests, according to the results of which students are assigned to health subgroups.
[warning] Worth noting: training is provided for both sexes in exactly the same program.[/warning]
Admission benefits
Competitive selection is made upon passing the exams.
If the faculty is paid, in this case, payment for the semester of study must be made.
In many educational institutions, preference is given to children who have the status of orphans, as well as children from large families. In this case, the student is granted tuition benefits.
In addition, benefits are provided to those who are the child of a serviceman, children of internal affairs employees, children of parents who died in the line of duty, as well as daughters and sons of prosecutors.
Documents and references
The required documents for admission to this educational institution are different for each school.
However, the general requirement is the presence of a passport or birth certificate of a citizen of the Russian Federation, an application from parents or guardians for admission, as well as a personal application from the student, which is filled out in the name of the director.
In addition, in order to send the child to study, you will need the psychological characteristics of the student, certified by the seal of the school, as well as two photographs.
You also need to make photocopies of all documents in two copies. Some institutions require a reference from the teacher or head teacher of the school, certified by the school seal. Samples of required applications can be found on the websites of educational institutions.
Prospects for students of the Suvorov military schools
The competitive selection is very high and not every child can enter there.
During training, much attention is paid to the moral side. Students are noble and honest, they know the basics of etiquette and business relations.
Such knowledge allows them to be more in demand in any profession and in society in general in the future.
After graduation, graduates acquire not only the specialty of an officer, but also many other specialties. Work in the military sphere is very difficult, but important, so all graduates receive the education that will be useful to them on the path of life.
