Pregnancy with twins: the most important tips
B Most women love to share information and give advice. Some of them are helpful, while others can even be harmful. It is up to the woman herself to decide who to listen to. When I got pregnant and found out that I was having twins, I heard a lot of different advice. Here are the three most important to me, for which I am grateful.

The first most important advice was given to me by a gynecologist long before the birth. When I came to her after the first ultrasound, she even went to consult with colleagues, since it is not every day that they have monochorionic diamniotic twins. If it is more clear - this is twins with one placenta. After that, she told me the following phrase: "Let's agree: you don't read anything on the Internet."
Are you expecting a baby? Choose only high-quality and safe clothes for your newborn. We at Lucky Child know everything about children's clothing, so we sew only the best for babies. Check out our online store at the link.
And I, of course, ran home and began to read information about my twins on the Internet without stopping, turned white with horror and closed all the tabs. And since that moment in my entire pregnancy, I have not read a single line on this topic.
In exchange, we agreed that I would be allowed a little more than other pregnant women. For example, so that I would not worry, I could go for an ultrasound scan once a week. Here you can recall the disputes about the benefits and harms of this study, but, honestly, the calmness of the expectant mother is more important. Even now I remember this feeling of coming calm, when on the ultrasound, I was told that the development of two fetuses is normal.
After the 25th week, the doctor concluded that one fetus is slightly larger than the other. Why is it so important? Because one was a donor, and the second was a consumer. That is, one child can simply deprive the second baby of all the nutrients. The possible result is that there will be no second one or it will not be fully developed. But it turned out that both the larger and the smaller fetus grew within the normal range.
When people ask me if my children are friendly, I say no. They can bite each other, fight is very painful. But they are not greedy - it is in their blood even before birth, and thanks to this there are two of them. If you give candy to one daughter, then she will take it, think about it and immediately ask for a second piece for her sister. But the second one will not ask, but, looking at her sister, will give her half of her candy.

The second piece of advice was given to me at the maternity hospital when I came to meet the doctor. Looking at the chart, he asked me to forget everything I had read or heard about the birth process and only do what he said. During childbirth, of course, there is no time for memories, but you stop thinking logically, so it’s better to listen to an experienced doctor.
The only thing that came in handy from the stories of numerous mothers I knew at that time was the stories about the big ball. Entering the delivery room, I automatically grabbed onto it and just jumped on it for the next four hours. For the rest, I implicitly trusted the doctor: he said “don’t yell, otherwise the children might suffocate” - that’s all: I didn’t squeak and jumped on the ball twice as high.
There was a situation when the doctor said one thing, and in parallel the midwife advised another. In my condition there was no time for analysis. But then the doctor quickly assessed the situation, told the midwife to be quiet, and he himself began to speak less and more clearly.
When he said that he had 15 minutes to give birth to his second child, I thought he was joking. I mastered one here for 6 hours, and the second in 15 minutes? As a result, the difference between the birth of daughters was 2 attempts or 5 minutes.

Another recommendation, perhaps the most valuable, was given to me by my friend's grandmother: "Always listen to your body. " This advice was useful to me both before and after childbirth.
It so happened that I am not distinguished by magnificent forms, and at first everyone kept saying that I could not stand two people. During pregnancy, I looked like a basketball was put on my stomach, but this did not stop me from giving birth to two healthy and not the smallest girls at term. After giving birth, neighbor mothers, looking at my incomplete second breast size, advised me to buy more mixture. I stocked up on jars of formula, but after giving birth I had a “solid” bust of the fourth size, and we did without supplementary feeding.
Like many other primiparous mothers, grannies told me that it was impossible to buy things before the birth of the child. I understood that earlier infant mortality was higher, and they gave advice based on the experience of their time. But after giving birth, I would not be able to run with two children in search of a stroller, clothes, accessories and diapers. And I am very glad that I stocked up for the future.
I remember that they told me: when carrying twins, you must constantly lie down, period. I do not argue, if possible, you need to rest, but pregnancy is not a disease. I had a thesis defense when it was the seventh month. And the second daughter turned over into a head presentation in the audience before my speech with a graduation project.
Now I have two quick-witted daughters Arina and Diana. I gave birth to them weighing 2500 g the first and 2800 g the second. I breastfed for a year and a half. Immediately returned to pre-pregnancy weight. If I see two identical beautiful things for my daughters, then I boldly take them for growth, because finding two identical fashionable dresses or jackets is a problem. I do not regret anything, I listen to wise advice and still do not believe in superstition.

How does a twin pregnancy proceed? gently sloping booth "Leleka"
Before describing the course of multiple pregnancy, it should be noted that the course of pregnancy has individual characteristics for each woman. There are no universal recommendations that would suit absolutely all pregnant women with one fetus or with several. Therefore, in this article we have tried to describe the general points that are most common, and which should be paid attention to the expectant mother.
How to detect twin pregnancy
Thanks to modern diagnostic methods, multiple pregnancy can be detected at an early stage. First, a doctor can diagnose twins during a routine examination - by noting the rapid increase in the size of the uterus or by hearing a double heartbeat. An experienced specialist can diagnose twins after 4 weeks of pregnancy. Secondly, twins are diagnosed during an ultrasound examination. This usually happens after 12 weeks. Prior to this, the expectant mother can only assume that she is carrying twins - for example, based on family history and the frequent occurrence of twins in the family. Blood tests are not yet a reliable way to determine twins.
How twin pregnancy proceeds
All stages of fetal development in a multiple pregnancy occur at the same time as in a single fetus. Therefore, the expectant mother can focus on the usual calendar for pregnant women. There are two main risks that a woman must take into account: this is the burden on the mother's body and the increased likelihood of complications.
Great burden on the mother's body
Two fetuses develop in a woman's body at once. They require more oxygen, more nutrients, their vital activity leads to an increased load on the excretory system. Any infection or pathology immediately creates a risk for three at once: for the mother and for the second fetus.
Therefore, during a multiple pregnancy, it is especially important for a woman to walk a lot in the fresh air, eat right and regularly, monitor body hygiene, and consult a doctor at the first alarming signs.
Increased likelihood of complications
Alas, not all women can bear two children normally. Approximately in the fifth part, the involution of the second fetal egg occurs: even in the first trimester, it freezes and decreases in size, while the second fetus continues to develop.
If both fetuses develop evenly, the difficulties do not end there. Due to the lack of iron in the mother's body, anemia, or anemia, can develop. Therefore, in multiple pregnancies, iron preparations are often prescribed.
Due to the large weight of the abdomen in the later stages, placenta or fetal previa may form. The placenta blocks the exit from the uterus, or the position of the fetus makes natural childbirth impossible. In these cases, resort to caesarean section.
Premature aging of the placenta and premature birth - due to the fact that the placenta has to provide oxygen and nutrients to two fetuses at once, it quickly wears out and ages. Because of this, and also because of a number of similar reasons, premature birth can begin. To reduce the risk of preterm labor, pregnant women may be prescribed drugs that relax the muscles.
Is it necessary to have a caesarean section during pregnancy with twins
No.
