How many pages are in the cursed child
15 things you need to know before reading Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
Seven books. That was J.K. Rowling's original promise to her ever-growing horde of loyal fans. In 2007 she delivered, ending the series with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Prophecies were fulfilled, teenage romances resolved and just desserts paid to heroes and villains alike.
In Rowling's final words to readers, "all was well."
On July 31, 2016, a brand new Potter adventure hit the shelves for the first time since Deathly Hallows was published. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts One and Two reached #1 on Amazon.ca's bestseller list with days to go before its midnight release.
- 50 things you might not know about J.K. Rowling
But before diving head-long into Pottermania, let's cool our heels and clarify some misconceptions flying around about the eighth story. Here's what you need to know (from someone who saw the first preview in London last June. No spoilers. I promise.):
1. First of all, and most importantly, this book is a script by Jack Thorne. It is not a novel by J.K. Rowling. It is not a novel adaptation of a play. It is a script and it is a play.
(Manuel Harlan/Harry Potter and the Cursed Child)2. It is also not a musical.
3. Scriptwriter Jack Thorne is a British playwright and Potter enthusiast. The script is based on a concept developed between Thorne, Rowling and Cursed Child director John Tiffany.
4. The play has been in previews since early June and despite Rowling's plea to fans to #KeeptheSecrets, plot spoilers can be found online.
Scorpius Malfoy (left, portrayed by Anthony Boyle) and Albus Potter (portrayed by Sam Clemmett). (Manuel Harlan/Harry Potter and the Cursed Child)5. The play officially premiered at the Palace Theatre in London, England on July 30, 2016. Plans have been announced to bring the play to Broadway in spring 2018.
6. The book is set 19 years after the Battle of Hogwarts. Harry is in his late 30s. He works at the Ministry of Magic and has three kids.
7. When Thorne, Rowling and Tiffany were imagining the new story, they began by wondering how Harry would deal with fatherhood, as someone who grew up an orphan and was severely abused as a child. The central premise of the play became Harry's relationship with one of his sons.
Harry Potter (portrayed by Jamie Parker) with his middle child, Albus Potter (portrayed by Sam Clemmett). (Manuel Harlan/Harry Potter and the Cursed Child)8. Many iconic magical creatures, objects and events make appearances.
9. You need to have read the books — or at least have a very good understanding of the story — to know what's going on in the play.
10. The British media have been giving the production rave reviews.

11. While this is the first full-fledged Potter adventure since Deathly Hallows, Rowling has provided glimpses into Potter's post-Voldemort life before (it looks pretty great) on her website Pottermore.
12. She has also, on occasion, dropped new character details (Dumbledore is gay) and corrected fan theories on Twitter (Ron Weasley is not a time travelling Dumbledore).
13. Rowling is actively expanding the magical world to North America. She made her screenwriting debut with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, starring Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne. Here's the trailer:
14. The script book of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts One and Two became available at midnight on July 31, 2016.
15. The staging is — there's no other word for it — magical. The cast is brimming with chemistry and charisma, bringing to life the friendship, humour and adventure that captivated the Potter generation to begin with. How will readers react to a raw script? Only someone truly skilled in divination could make a prediction.

Description
The Eighth Story. Nineteen Years Later. Based on an original story by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Jack Thorne, a play by Jack Thorne.
It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children. While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son, Albus, must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: Sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places. The playscript for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was originally released as a "special rehearsal edition" alongside the opening of Jack Thorne’s play in London’s West End in summer 2016. Based on an original story by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Jack Thorne, the play opened to rapturous reviews from theatergoers and critics alike, while the official playscript became an immediate global bestseller.

"Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" J. Rowling and co-authors - 15 answers
Oh, gods, how I waited for a novelty about HP from Rowling herself. Yes, I knew that it would not be a novel, but a play, the performance of which was supposed to start in London the day before the book went on sale on July 31st. I pre-ordered the book back in March and received it this Monday, August 1st. How delighted I was. And how I want to scream now: "Rowling! Give me my money back !!!" I would not have been so outraged if I had not stumbled upon for the first time in my life... bibliophile ! And not just one, but several. So blatant that now I'm going to bulldoze through the sim, so to speak, the work. To the fullest of my indignations. Under the cut is my review, a small spoiler and a photo of the pages of monstrous book blunders. In short: do not spend your money on this in any case, but decide for yourself about your time.
I read it in the original, in English, so there could be no mistakes of the translator.
Beginning of song:
300 pages of very large text with large indents. If you do not come off - three hours of reading. Everything would be fine if ... This is a fanfic. Very bad fanfiction, as if someone once heard about the history of HP and decided, without reading books, to write something like a sequel. I don't understand how Rowling's name ended up on this book at all.
All this is one big mistake of the authors of this fanfiction. Not Hogwarts - but a passage yard. Forget about the fact that this school is a fortress protected by all possible ways of magic, which can only be reached by one way. Anyone can tumble into the headmaster's fireplace. Any wanderer from a nearby village can wander straight to the door of Hogwarts (not to the gate, but right to the threshold of the front door) and see what is being done in the highest tower. From the ground, of course, all this is visible. All the details of who is there in the high tower, how they are dressed, what they do, how they look. Anyone can approach the school through the forbidden forest, and only the centarvs swear at the GP, the rest - hang around as much as you like, do whatever you want. The same goes for the Ministry of Magic.
And in general, any self-taught person on his knee can brew a transformation potion in a minute, while Hermione needed 40 days in her third year (I think).
I was not too lazy and counted how many pages Rowling wrote in the original in English language about the first 4 years of study GP = 1800 pages (plus or minus 50). Do you know how many pages she gave to HP's son and his first 4 years? ten! Ten pages of large text with huge indentation. Galloping through Europe - this is my first feeling was from the book. Bare bones without the meat of actions, thoughts, deeds or any description. Okay, the play is like, figs with her, I think. I tried not even to pay attention to the fact that it seems like other children do not exist at all. They showed up at the beginning, identified themselves, and that's it. And they disappeared. There are none, like a cow licked with her tongue. Only one rebel remained, and his parents. No brother, no sister. None of his relatives at school talk to him, no one worries, no one is looking for him. The same goes for Ron's children. Somewhere only at the end of the book it is mentioned that he also has a son! That's how it is! And where has he been all this time?
Heroes and their characters - I don't believe them even once. Harry is not Harry. Again, both he and Ginny always talk about their one child. Being a three-time father, HP only begins to learn how to be a father when he is younger. Ron rather became more like one of his twin brothers. Malfoy is a sintemental slob.
Oh yes, it's 2020!
And now I will tell you about two of the most egregious bibliophiles. In fact, there are many more inconsistencies, but this is absolutely out of the question. Judge for yourself.
The play mentions many, many times a specific feature of the object, which in the original is called the Time-Turner - a thing for moving in time (we recall the third book of the Potteriana - Hermione used such a thing to be in all lessons). Its peculiarity lies in the fact that in order to be at a certain geographical point at a certain time point in the past, it is necessary to stand in this place in the present, launch this object from there, and then the heroes will be able to be exactly where they need 20 with a tail years ago. And they really do, they go to the right places (I go back to the fact that Hogwarts and the Forbidden Forest are a passage yard), start a timer and find themselves where they need to be. And I'll repeat, just as they do so many times in the book - you have to be in the exact same place. But in the fourth act comes Bibliophile #1 . They launched this same timer and ... ended up hundreds of kilometers from the place where they were. Not knowing where they are. And, most importantly, not at all surprised by this fact. Why then, one wonders, did you have to jump through the drain pipes (and in general, where did you see the sewerage of a sink the width of a teenager ??) to end up in the lake? Why did you have to trudge through the forbidden forest? Why was it necessary to drag two teenagers to the field, where they are a priori visible to everyone and everywhere, although the whole school, including ghosts, is looking for them, but does not see or find them? If you can immediately do everything while sitting on your chair in the bedroom? Or from the same tower. Ah, I understand! What is happening in the tower is visible to everyone passing right from below, but what is happening on the Quidditch field is not seen by anyone at school, not a single soul, neither living nor long dead.
But the end just killed me. You know, until this moment, which I'm going to tell you about now, I thought that it would be even interesting to watch the play, but this... At the end of the third act, it is mentioned twice how Delphi took and broke Albus's wand. Twice, so as not to be mistaken - I double-checked. Albus found himself in the past without a wand. Act 4. Passes 6 scenes and ... ta-dammm! Albus "with his wand" opens the door!
Read for yourself:
Nowhere between these places is it mentioned where and from where my Albus can get "his wand". Okay mine. It doesn’t even say anything like: “Here, Albus, you have a wand on you, now it will be yours, go and save the world with it at the ready!”. Or "I am Albus, I stole this wand from Bathilda. " No. She just showed up and that's it. Ta-dam! Magic is all around!
At this point, I grabbed my head. Everyone knows what a kinop is. Believe me, this book is a bibliophile! I'll give it a maximum of 1. If it weren't for the book bloopers, I'd give it a 3 minus. But to disrespect your reader and viewer so much.... Dear potterroman, don't waste your money on this.
I have the impression that the three authors who put their names on the very beautiful cover of this book agreed on the original idea. And they also divided among themselves who writes what. Act 4. Author 3. Someone got more, someone less. Someone wrote the first act, someone the second. And so on. Or even just divided the work according to the scenes. But none of them bothered to read what the others had written. That's how they put everything together, without even reading it, and sent it to print.
I'm just wondering which of the authors considers their audience (because it's a play) to be such an idiot? Give me my money back!!!!!
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
J. K. Rowling's comments in one of the social networks became a signal for fans of the Harry Potter saga to discuss whether there will be a continuation of the franchise, or 8 parts should be put an end to. The huge popularity of the project and the multi-million dollar budget makes the creators of the picture scrupulously treat every detail, otherwise even the slightest trifle can become a failure. Therefore, we hasten to assure the fans - to continue to be. True, it will not be released soon: the preliminary release date for the fantastic film "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" is scheduled for early 2026.

Plot
The near future - history repeats itself. Harry sends his son, Albus, to magic school. Meanwhile, Malfoy's son, Scorpius, who also gets on a flight to an educational institution, is worried, because many believe that he is the son of Voldemort.
Hermione and Ron are married and have children. All together grown heroes work in the Ministry of Magic. Harry's son arrives for the holidays and witnesses the drama. Amos Diggory asks Harry to use the time-wheel and turn back time in order to save Cedric's son. Harry refuses. Meanwhile, Harry's son decides to correct the injustice and break the will of his father, to help Amos.
Thus begins the journey of Albus and Scorpius. Instead of saving Cedric, the time travelers become the arbiters of their own unenviable fate: the flywheel is out of order, and it will not work to go back. The further and deeper the jump, the more mistakes.
Actors
According to some reports, the cast of the future picture will change. Who will stay in the project and who will leave the franchise is a trade secret, so let's talk about the heroes of the new part.
- Albus Severus Potter is Harry and Ginny's child. He got his name from two famous directors of Hogwarts. He is friends with Malfoy's son, Scorpius, and has no contact with Hermione and Ron's children. However, as with his own father.
- Scorpius Malfoy is the son of Draco Malfoy. In the magical community, they say that he is the son of Volan de Mort and Bellatrix Lestrange, and his father Draco thus maintains a commitment to the Dark Lord. He is friendly with the son of Harry Potter, despite the long-standing enmity of the fathers.
- Harry Potter is the father of Albus. Potter is married to Ron's sister, Ginny Weasley. He cannot cope with his own son without outside help, and worries about this.
Interesting facts
- Hermione's character has caused a racial scandal. The audience accused J.K. Rowling of allowing a black actress to work on the film, and the writer, in turn, stated that those who allow themselves to express expressions against her are racists.
- Daniel Radcliffe is rumored to have turned down the role of Harry Potter. Like Emma Watson - from the role of Hermione. The only one who is enthusiastic about the upcoming filming is Rupert Green, but whether he will appear in the frame is a mystery.
- Those who starred in the last part of the Deathly Hallows, the audience will not see in the new picture: time passes, children grow up.
- Many of those who worked on the previous 8 parts are ready to take part in the filming of the new picture. According to the crew and cast, it's more than filming. It's almost a family.
