Who wants to walk this path of life alone?! Takers? Anyone? Okay, maybe there are some of you out there up to your eyeballs in chaos, dying for a moment of silence, who truly would like to walk certain parts of your life without disruption. Maybe isolation is beginning to sound pretty good about now. Maybe you’re desperate for a sigh of peace; something to soothe and breathe life to your worn-out soul (but only if it’s a soundless sigh). I get that. I do. But would any of us, if we had a choice, choose to walk this road of motherhood all by ourselves?
{Why do I suddenly have visions of Bridget Jones, all forlorn, in her pajamas singing “All By Myseeeelf?” Anyone else’s brain do that? Seriously, quotes and songs pop up all the time, all day long in this mind of mine. Unbidden pesky things. Okay, better get back on track.}
There is something about knowing you’re not alone in the journey. That we’re in this craziness together. And by together, I mean the sisterhood of mom-friends all around us. Whether we recognize it or not, we are surrounded. We are surrounded by women who have gone through this mysterious venture of motherhood already, and somehow survived to tell about it! And we are surrounded by countless other women who are right here, right now, in the midst of the delightful and not-so-delightful mayhem right along with us. Hand-in-hand, we can build one another up. Encouraging one another to see the gifts of motherhood. Challenging one another in our faith. Cheering one another on like a boisterous group of enthusiastic cheerleaders building a human pyramid.
We are not alone in this desire for community. Jesus surrounded Himself with 12 friends to walk alongside Him through His time of ministry here on earth. Friends who were willing to take risks, travel dusty roads, listen to long hours of teaching, and still be keen on breaking bread together at the end of a long day.
It’s time, friends, to choose your team.
God wired us in such a way that we can’t do it all on our own. We need fellowship. We need encouragement. We need the Body of Christ to speak life to our weary souls. And more than anything? We need Jesus! The Ultimate Life-Giver.
Part of the power of unbreakable community is the importance of an unshakable foundation. With an established strong community, we can help each other recognize any cracks that might threaten a strong foundation. Together, we need to be vigilant. We need to be on our guard. We need to be in The Word. We don’t want any stress fractures to form. Fissures such as discontentment, comparison, worry, selfishness, jealousy, or mom guilt (just to name a few), have absolutely no place here.
Let’s commit ourselves to being a part of the team. Allowing Unbreakable Community to FUEL Unshakable Courage. And as we step out in faith, we can be confident that our sisters have our back. Rooting for us. Praying for us. Fueling our courage to follow the path Christ sets before us.
So who will you choose to be on your team today?
Do you have a friend or community of women you’d like to tell us about? Faithful loyal friends who have been there for you through the good and bad? We’d love to hear…
