What craving mean
What Do Your Cravings Mean?
Food cravings usually mean your body is trying to tell you something, whether it’s that you’re not eating enough or that you have a deficiency in a certain vitamin or nutrient.
There are plenty of ways to understand common cravings, including symptoms to watch out for and ways to manage cravings, and it’s all here for you.
What does is the meaning of “craving”?According to the Dictionary, a “craving” is “an intense, urgent, or abnormal desire or longing.”
In this case, food cravings are when you just can’t get a certain snack or type of food off your mind…
What are food cravings? One of the main reasons the body craves extra food on a diet is that it wants more energy. Calories are a unit of energy.
So, when you diet and start losing body fat, your body will do everything in its power to maintain balance.
This includes sending out powerful signals to make you want to eat.
Are food cravings bad? These signals aren't helpful if you’re overweight and need to reduce your weight for health reasons.
Don’t forget we have another powerful source of energy available to us, and it’s calorie-free.
Extra sleep and rest are very useful when you are on a diet.
Are cravings a sign of deficiency? If you are having cravings on your diet, look at what you have been eating.
Choose foods which replace key missing vitamins, minerals, or micronutrients.
When you are in a calorie deficit, you need to be careful about nourishing your body and making good food choices.
Summary- A “craving” is an especially strong desire for a certain thing, such as chocolate
- Food cravings occur because our bodies want more energy, often brought on by diets
- Cravings may appear due to a change in diet or lack of sleep, but they can also be a sign of deficiency in our diet

11 types & symptoms of food cravingsHere are 11 popular food cravings and what they might be trying to tell you.
Some people crave salty foods like crisps, chips, and savoury snacks.
This is linked to low levels of electrolytes, dehydration, and stress, which may be shown in symptoms such as headaches, nausea, and an inability to concentrate.
Eat more Vitamin B foods like nuts, seeds, whole grains, fruit, and vegetables.
1. Craving salt
Chocolate is a combination of fats and sugars (carbohydrates), but it also contains significant vitamins and minerals.
So, your body might be asking for magnesium, chromium, or B vitamins as well as essential fats.
Try 90% chocolate or 100% cacao. Buy a small bar, or better still, try cacao nibs as raw chocolate can often have more minerals than normal chocolate.
2. Chocolate cravings
Chocolate cravings can indicate a need for happy hormones like serotonin, meaning that a low mood could be a clear symptom for incoming chocolate cravings.
Alternatively, consider a non-food treat like an early night, a cuddle with your pet, or some quality time with a loved one.
Protein can be found in many healthy foods, such as white meats, fish, rice, lentils, and nuts.
However, it can be hard to know when you’re craving protein specifically as it may manifest in a number of ways.
Symptoms of protein deficiency may be brittle hair or nails, loss of muscle mass, or an increase in desire to eat savoury, high-protein foods.1,2,3
3. Craving protein
There are a number of reasons why you might craving milk.
For starters, milk is 87% water, so you may be thirsty.
4. Craving milk
Outside of that, milk has high levels of protein (8g) and fat (7g), so if you recently started a diet, your body may be searching for a quick way to appease your hunger.
Milk also contains 18 of the 22 essential vitamins and minerals our bodies need, a number of which – Vitamin A, Vitamin B-12, calcium, magnesium, and zinc – our bodies can’t produce on their own.4
See if your daily meals are giving you enough of these nutrients!
If you’re craving cheese, fried foods, or other high-fat options, you could need more essential fatty acids, such as omega-3.
Introduce oily fish, whole eggs, avocado, or take a good quality fish oil supplement. Symptoms of an omega-3 deficiency may include dry skin, dry eyes, or lower moods.5,6,7
5. Cheese cravings
If you’re cravings savoury carbs, it’s a sign that you are low on energy.
To an extent, this is to be expected. An energy imbalance is the only way to lose unwanted weight. But carb cravings can also indicate blood sugar fluctuations.
Fill up on fibre-rich carbohydrate foods like fruit (apples and bananas are a good choice), root vegetables, and cruciferous vegetables.
6. Craving carbs
Some believe that craving vinegar is a symptom of low stomach acid, something our body produces to help with digestion.
Although no studies yet confirm this, the NHS recommends avoiding acidic foods as they may increase the risk of heartburn.8
7. Vinegar craving
Cake is delicious, there’s no question there… However, your body is likely craving the sugar that’s often in baked goods.
When our bodies crave sugar, it’s likely in search of additional energy.
If you’re showing symptoms of fatigue – perhaps after a bad night’s sleep or you recently switched to a new diet – try drinking water or eating a healthy, high-protein snack like nuts and seeds. This should curb your craving.
8. Craving cake
Whether you’re craving apples, craving bananas, craving oranges, craving pineapples, or craving another fruit entirely, you have one of the healthiest cravings going!
Fruits are full of important vitamins, nutrients, and fibre, but craving fruit can be a symptom of dehydration, low blood-sugar levels, or even a change in hormones, such as pregnancy.9
9. Craving fruit
Fish are naturally high in fatty acids like omega-3, so craving fish may be mean that you need more omega-3 in your diet.
Other symptoms to watch out for if you’re deficient in omega-3 could be dry skin, dry eyes, or lower moods.10,11,12
10.
Craving fishSugar is a difficult craving to manage.
Sugar is totally lacking in essential nutrients, so it’s more likely that your body is asking for fast energy, or that it is replaying an old habit loop.
Giving in to sugar cravings will make dieting much more difficult.
11. Cravings for sugar
Try fruit or berries, ideally combined with some protein to fill you up.
Real Greek yoghurt or cottage cheese, with frozen berries and some 90%+ dark chocolate, is a great idea.
And drink some water. Experts think we crave sugar more when we are slightly dehydrated.
Handpicked content: How to beat sugar cravings

CRAVING - WHAT IS IT AND WHAT TO DO WITH IT?, Tutorial as an obsessive desire to use a substance that occurs in a person dependent on alcohol or drugs.
The definition of co-dependent cravings is not much different - it is only necessary to replace the phrase: "use alcohol or drugs" with the phrase: "save your neighbor, without his desire." Thus, the basic definition of co-dependent ROD would look like this:DRIVING is a state of obsession, when a person needs to “save” his neighbor at all costs, without taking into account the desire of the person being saved. The word "save" here also refers to attempts to somehow change those features and characteristics of one's neighbor that one does not like, frighten or irritate.
In general, the states of CRAVING are very similar in dependent and co-dependent people.
Addiction (eng. addiction — addiction, addiction), in a broad sense, is an obsessive need felt by a person for a certain activity. nine0003
Thus, in a person addicted to alcohol or drugs, it is an obsessive need to use a substance; in a game addict, it is an obsessive need to play; his obsessive desire or from the consequences of the realization of this desire.
CRAVING is a manifestation of dependence/co-dependence that is not understood by others. At the same time, the co-addict thinks that the addict just wants to use, and not wanting to deny himself this pleasure, he spits on those around him. Hence the attitude to the addict as a weakling or a scoundrel. The addict, in turn, thinks that the co-dependent has nothing to do in his own life, and therefore he climbs into strangers, which no one asks him to do. Hence the attitude towards him, as to an obsessive, annoying and boring subject, from which one wants to hide, to run away. And this is just an example and a very small part of how traction can look and be interpreted from the outside. nine0003
In fact, CRAVING is a feature or otherness of people who have different forms of addiction, but this feature unites them rather than divides them, because has common causes, triggers and impact on quality of life.
DRIVING is a trigger mechanism for processes that can “pull” a dependent/co-dependent person out of the here and now. These processes arise unplanned and not consciously, as a response to uncomfortable feelings, such as fear, anxiety, anxiety, anger, rage, indignation, impatience, pain, sadness, longing, loneliness, etc. nine0003

Problems of computer addiction formation in adolescents
... years. According to them, the symptoms of addiction are: an obsessive desire to check your mailbox ... more people (especially children) become psychologically addicted to computer games. Every day they come up ... the craving for searching for information on the net. This also includes a pathological desire to play online games, attachment to online auctions or electronic purchases on the Internet. Another form of addiction...
Just like a dog on a leash who, instead of doing what he wants, is forced to obey his master, so a person with any form of addiction is not free to live the way he wants. From time to time, addiction/co-dependency - smart, cunning and knowing how to handle its victim, pulls on its leash - DRIVING, and the addict / co-addict is dragged to where it was not going to and does not really want to. The trick of addiction lies in the fact that the addict does not guess about its existence, that CRAVING is NOT HIS desire, and that in this ignorance the addict / co-dependent does what the addiction / co-dependence wants from him. nine0003
CRAVING is the main symptom of both addiction and co-dependency. It is perfectly normal for people recovering from these conditions to have and experience cravings. CRAVING can occur anytime, anywhere, even if the person is actively involved in a recovery program. In the first months of recovery, traction may be especially common. CRAVING differs in frequency and intensity in different people.
SO THE CRAVING IS:
NOT just a desire to consume or save
NOT the desire of the dependent/co-dependent to do this
NOT a conscious choice
NOT an event or episode in life
use/rescueSemi-conscious, unconscious process
Attack from the outside against sobriety/consciousness
A process that develops in certain stages.
It is important to understand what can cause CRAVING, its physical and mental symptoms. In each specific case, this will be a unique set, which can be revealed only with the help of observation and attention. nine0003
The moment of occurrence of CRAVING - the so-called sudden attack of dependence / co-dependence occurs with a person without his visible participation in this. And of course it's not his fault that this is happening. But what will be the reaction of a person to this attack - it is entirely the responsibility of the dependent / co-dependent. It is worth a little delay and being inside this process, as DRIVING gains strength, grows, and it becomes more and more difficult to cope with it every moment. An internal or external dialogue with oneself or with another person about using/rescue, viewing it as a potential opportunity, brings the person into a state of emotional involvement in these processes. When the mind and feelings are inside the DRIVING, there is no longer any power within the person to help make the decision to stop using/saving. Strong involvement in the process and a “random” circumstance that works like a trigger of a weapon completes the job: a person goes to use/rescue and nothing will stop him. nine0003
CRAVING (or temptation) can be caused by the environment (things, people, objects, situations) reminiscent of the use/rescue; a state of severe stress or internal emotional discomfort with feelings of resentment, anger and fear.

Physical signs may include tension in the muscles of the abdomen, legs, arms, headache and toothache, fussy movements and restlessness, excitement throughout the body.
Psychological signs may consist in the activation of thoughts about how good it is possible to feel after taking alcohol, drugs, playing, eating or pulling your neighbor out of some kind of trouble and how terrible life is without it.
CRAVING is not only a desire to use/save, it is also nostalgia for the time of using/saving, talking about it and not being able to do it now. nine0003
DRIVING is of three types:
1. Hidden
2. Associative
3. Pronounced
HIDDEN DRIVING is an unconscious process when a person does not understand what he really needs. A simple example is when a drug addict walks around the area where he can meet people with whom he used, and a co-addict asks a long-time acquaintance who suddenly met about sick relatives and mutual acquaintances suffering from anything. In both of these examples, people are not aware of the desire to consume/save. nine0003
ASSOCIATION DRIVES are objects, smells, music, colors, weather, circumstances, people and places that remind of consumption/rescue.
A STRONG DRIVING is a conscious desire to use, play, eat, save, change someone. On the physical level, it can be expressed by trembling in the arms, legs, throughout the body, in increased salivation, or, on the contrary, in severe dryness in the mouth, aching joints or headaches, etc.
A pronounced craving appears when the latent and associative one is not tracked and ignored. It accumulates and develops into a desire to use/save. nine0003
Freedom of choice, the ability to refuse the temptations of cravings and, accordingly, the use and actions aimed at saving or changing loved ones, exists only at the first stages of the development of cravings. This is the time when a person, being in his right mind, simply pushes away thoughts of use / salvation, barely recognizing this desire in himself, and moves on in life. To a lesser extent, a person is free to choose at the stage of pronounced craving - here efforts are already needed, this is overcoming oneself. And here is the only hope for outside help. And this help is the pulling out of the dependent / co-dependent by others from the spell of his craving. For this, reliable people are very much needed nearby, who, having noticed the madness of the dependent / co-dependent, can point to it even before the dependent / co-dependent notices it himself. Such people are members of anonymous and therapeutic groups and professionals. nine0003
It is important to understand that there is a stage in the development of DRIVING, when it is no longer possible to help the dependent/co-dependent, because he himself, uniting with his DRIVING, makes his fall. And finally, if using/trying to save or change someone does happen - the healthiest thing an addict/co-addict can do is call for help, stop doing what they're doing, don't let despair completely destroy all the good that still left in life.
An important task in the early stages of recovery from addiction/co-dependence is the acquisition of the skill of recognizing CRAVES. Living with DRIVING against the background of denying its existence is a direct path to a breakdown. Therefore, it is necessary to know how to work with CRAVING so that it stops controlling the life of the addict/co-addict. It is proposed at first to keep a daily (at least 3 months) diary of DRIVING (table attached), in order to clearly line up in the head a diagram of this process, which is individual for each person. The meaning of keeping such a diary is to develop the skill of recognizing DRIVING at the first stage and its easy study, which over time begins to happen automatically. The most important thing is the ability to recognize and recognize DRIVING. nine0003
The first column of the table is the POWER Source. It is important to identify what event or action triggered the uncomfortable thoughts, feelings, and actions. It can be anything: conversation and memory of use/rescue, weather, music, place, scene from a movie or TV show, etc. The source of the DRIVING can also be in an event three days ago, and then you have to rewind the film of life back hour after hour, carefully remembering where and when the DRIVING was suppressed or ignored.
The second column is the feelings that accompanied a person at that moment - at the moment of that very event, conversation, TV show or song that sounded on the radio. Feelings are important to determine based on the table of feelings, no matter how difficult it may be. Even if it seems that there were no feelings, but only an incomprehensible light, it is nevertheless necessary to select those words from the table of feelings that are most suitable for this event. DRIVING is not always accompanied by uncomfortable feelings. Sometimes it can be euphoric. nine0003
The third column is the reaction of the body. It is known that at first the body somehow reacts to any event, and only then is it possible to recognize feelings.
FEAR is a condition when the blood vessels constrict. Body reactions, such as pallor, tension, feeling of an "empty head", because. with fear, fright and horror, the blood is concentrated in the central part of the body (in the abdomen).
Strong fear is like a small death - a person turns pale, cold sweat may suddenly come out, a feeling of "sinking of the heart", hands become wet and cold, trembling in the hands, feet or throughout the body. All these are signs of the release of a large amount of adrenaline into the blood. nine0003
ANGER is one of the feelings that every person experiences from time to time, even the most gentle and kind. There is nothing wrong or wrong with having this feeling. Anger then becomes a problem when a person does not know how to control it - when anger controls a person. The body responds to anger with reactions such as increased heart rate, reddening of the face, increased sweating, increased breathing, tight closure of the jaws, squinting of the eyes, clenching fists, tapping the floor or an object standing on the floor, etc. nine0003
SAD is a feeling that also often accompanies CRAVING. The physical reaction is manifested in lethargy, slowness, detachment, stupor, sometimes in a feeling of sharp or dull pain in the solar plexus area or in a feeling of heaviness in the same place, and in the shoulders. In sadness, it can be difficult to find a place for yourself, often there is a aching headache.
JOY is a feeling that in the state of DRIVING manifests itself as laughter for no reason, an excited state, a feeling of flying, fussy movements, excessive talkativeness, sweaty palms. nine0003
The fourth column is a very significant part of the table. It outlines the actions recommended by the addiction/co-dependence recovery program as tools to help you get rid of CRAVES. Working with DRIVING is, first of all, working with feelings. It is proposed to make the following choices:
— to realize that there is DRIVING
— to recognize it
— to characterize it (hidden, associative, pronounced)
— to write down DRIVING in the diary, on a piece of paper in the absence of a diary with you
- write a letter to CRAVING
- speak CRAVING to a mentor, psychologist, another member of the group in person or by calling
- pray, ask God to take CRAVING
- switch (do something pleasant, necessary)
- do ten deep inhalations and exhalations through the nose
- do 10 squats or push-ups or pull-ups
- take a shower, wash dishes, wash (wash off the DRIVING)
- draw a DRIVING and burn drawing
- dance and sing
- say aloud: “Hello TYAGA! Stop DRIVING! While DRIVING!
Everyone can supplement this list with their own tools and use them boldly.
