These weekend features are to remind us of all the INGs of life. The Doing. The Nothing. The Speaking (of the Holy Spirit). The Listening (of our hearts).
RISING and RESTING
Those of you who know me well can attest that I am a night owl. My brain is most active in the wee hours (although this hour has gotten slightly earlier with children and years of compiled sleep deprivation). I’ve tried the whole get-out-of-bed-super-early-and-be-productive-before-the-family-is-up-and-about thing, but it’s a shoe that simply refuses to fit. I just end up staring into space, my thoughts all tired and mushy, and by late afternoon I’m a cranky mess.
Yes, I’m sure I could be a little more disciplined and try the early morning routine for more than 3 days in a row, but here I am: a mama who likes to sleep in the early morning hours and stay awake in the late ones.
Before we go any further, I need to say a big ol’ Thank You to all you Masterpiece Mommers who gave feedback to my FB question regarding being an early riser or stay-up-later (not sure what to do with the grammar on that one). For all you curious folk, statistically speaking, those who replied were more inclined to be night owls, although a few voiced that they wished they were not. Hmmm. For all you early risers, my deepest condolences.
So you can imagine my surprise at how many verses on early rising I’ve come across in the last few days. Surely God wouldn’t call us all to that ! (And all the night owls say “Amen!”)
Now there’s something we CAN do. Upon rising, we can lay our requests before the Lord and begin the day leaving them at His feet. In honesty and humility, we can confess our weakness to Him, knowing that He is faithful to take care of us, to encourage our hearts, and hide us under the shelter of His wing. There is such sweet rest there.
No more feeling like the day is crashing down on us before we’ve even gotten out of bed!
This weekend, dear sweet mama, as you rise and as you rest, may you feel the refreshing power of Christ in you, the Hope of Glory.
No matter our circumstances, no matter our physical, emotional or spiritual state (not to mention sleep patterns), He is our all.
Grace and peace, dear friends.
Until next time…
What INGs are you looking forward to this weekend? We’d love to hear what’s going on in your world. May you see the fingerprints of the Creator wherever you go.
{As a bonus for your weekend, here’s a song by Kari Jobe called “Always Enough” — I have been listening to it over and over the last few weeks allowing its message of hope to sink into the deepest darkest places of my heart: “…Let the fullness of Your love be all I need…If I have You, I have everything. But without You, I am nothing….” See what I mean? So good! I pray that it will minister to your soul as well.}
