Before you proceed with our tutorial, you need to prepare the items needed to unlock child lock in car. These are simple tools that you can find in your toolbox. In case you don’t have them, you can order online or you can purchase them at the nearest local store. You can also borrow from your friends or neighbors.
1. Flathead screwdriverYou will need a flathead screwdriver to open the plastic cover and access the lock mechanism. A flathead screwdriver has a tip in the shape of a wedge. It is useful for tightening and loosening screws that have straight and linear notch heads. This screwdriver is also one of the most used tools.
When it comes to sizes, you must choose the right size of the screwdriver that will fit the screw head. There are two measurements that must be noted in choosing a flathead screwdriver: the shaft’s length and the head’s width.
The sizes available for a flathead screwdriver are ¼ by 4, 3/16 by 4, ⅛ by 4, 3/16 by 1 ½, and 3/32 by 1 ½. The first number is the width of the screw head while the second number is the shaft length. If it’s only close-up work, you can use a stubby flathead driver.
If you want to have a better grip, you can also use a screwdriver with a longer shaft. Also, if you are not sure what kind of flathead screwdriver you need, you can buy a set. This will help you choose what size of screwdriver is suitable.
2. LubricantTo slide the switch of the child safety lock, a lubricant is necessary. It is useful in preventing metals from corroding. It also helps in improving the performance of machines, tools, or any kinds of metals. However, lubrication must be applied regularly to keep the good performance of the machine.
For this tutorial, you can use a dry lubricant. This one comes in the form of a spray. It is mixed with other solvents such as water and alcohol that quickly dry up after being applied. Dry lubricants are typically applied on hinges, locks, and rods. The benefit of using this is that it doesn’t attract dirt or dust.
If you don’t have a dry lubricant, you can also use a penetrating lubricant. This is commonly used for rusty bolts or home locks. Although it does not last for a long time, it provides enough lubrication to easily penetrate cracks and break up any rust. If the screw is already rusting, this type of lubricant is the best to use.
Another alternative is an oil lubricant. The weight number of the oil will determine its density. You can also mix some additives if you want it to have anti-corrosion properties.
3. GlovesA pair of gloves is useful to provide you with a good grip while you are doing the tutorial, especially if your hands are wet or sweaty. There are different kinds of gloves that you can choose from, depending on the type of job you will use them for.
Choose gloves that are reusable since these gloves are for industrial or heavy-duty purposes. They are also thicker compared to disposable gloves, which can provide protection to your hands, especially from cuts and hazardous materials. You can choose from reusable nitrile gloves and reusable latex gloves.
The benefit of using reusable nitrile gloves is that it prevents punctures and provides a comfortable fit. Aside from that, it can resist chemicals and high temperature materials. However, this kind is one of the most expensive reusable gloves.
Another option is the reusable latex gloves. This type is useful in general cleaning. However, it can provide a good and comfortable grip. It is one of the least expensive but it has a minimal resistance, especially to chemicals.
What to DoStep 1: Take off the plastic cover on the child lock leverTo have access to the lock mechanism of the lock, you need to take off the plastic cover on the child lock lever. You will need a flathead screwdriver to remove the cover. Once done, you will see a large hole that will give you access to the lock mechanism.
Step 2: Put a lubricant all over the lock lever then turn the lock on and offYou have to put lubricant all over the lock lever. Make sure that it reaches inside the lock device so that you can slide the lock and unlock it. Once you are done, look for the switch of the child lock device. It can usually be seen below the latch, at the external edge of the car door.
To loosen the child safety door lock, you have to turn the switch on and off about 25 times then reset the lock. You can also do these steps to the other doors of your car that are stuck and don’t disengage properly.
Step 3: Return the plastic coverAfter you have successfully unlocked the child safety door lock, you can now return the cover of the lock mechanism. Try to drive your car to see if there is still a problem with the lock mechanism. If there is, just do the process all over again but you have to force down the lever by putting a tape on it.
ConclusionAre you satisfied with our tutorial on how to unlock child safety door lock? By following each step carefully, you can unlock the lock and, at the same time, fix it temporarily. You don’t have to call a mechanic in case you are having difficulty opening the lock.
If you find this article helpful, you can also share it with your friends who are struggling to open their child safety door lock. We will also love to hear from you. You are free to share your experiences while doing the tutorial. Just leave a comment below.

How to protect a child from falling out of a window.
I have two small children, three and five years old. And I don't want them to fall out of the window.
Andrey Melnikov
responsible father
In general, I did not notice that my children were sitting on the windowsill or trying to open the windows, but the statistics are frightening. Therefore, I decided to install child locks on the windows.
I have tried various window blocking devices, found out their advantages and disadvantages. Perhaps my experience will save you time and money, and most importantly, it will save children from tragic accidents.
All the devices I will review can be installed by yourself. They are suitable for almost all plastic windows - Rehau, Veka and others.
Lockable handle
The most obvious option is a lockable handle. I bought a few pieces for 240 R in a construction hypermarket and installed them myself. Replacing the handle is simple: you need to unscrew the two screws that hold the old handle with a Phillips screwdriver, insert a new one and tighten the screws back. There is no need to drill anything in the window frame. It took a couple of minutes to install one handle.
The principle of operation is simple: a closed lock blocks the rotation of the handle - that is, it cannot be turned either up or sideways. The key is inserted into the button - this is the lock cylinder. To close the lock, you need to pull out the key and press the button.
How the handle with button and key works - video on YouTube
You can lock the handle in any position. If you have a tilt and turn system, be sure to block the handle when you open the sash in a vertical position for ventilation, then the child will not be able to open the window completely.
Buy a handle with a lock:
at Leroy Merlin for 223 R,
at Ob for 519 R,
at Castorama for 728 R does not work if you forgot to remove the key from the lock or did not block the handle during ventilation. Therefore, I continued to look for a more suitable solution.
This device can be installed on turn-and-turn sashes and tilt-and-turn windows. If you want to get rid of the limiter, keep in mind that holes from self-tapping screws will remain in sight. It is unlikely that this option is suitable for a rented apartment.
I put this lock on a window that I planned to change soon. When I installed a new window, I no longer wanted to screw the limiter onto it - a cable would worsen the appearance.
Rope length 18 cm | The cable will not allow the window to open more than 8-12 cm - depends on the thickness of the window profile and the method of installing the limiter |
Hardware lock
I learned about this type of limiters by accident. So far, such hardware locks seem to me the best protection - however, you rarely see them on sale. I bought my lock in "Petrovich" for 350 R, in other stores look for "children's opening limiter" on request.
The principle of operation is as follows: a metal bar is installed in the upper part of the window between the frame and the sash. The limiter is not visible at all when the window is closed: it is adjacent to the profile. In the locked state, the hardware lock does not allow the window to be opened more than 8-9see
How to install a hardware lock - video on YouTube
The left bar is attached to the frame, and the right bar is attached to the window sash. When the window is closed, the slats form one line: the right slat slides into the groove of the left. A small lever with the letters FSMB is needed to unlock it - to open the window, turn itDo not open the sash wider: the limiter works in the same way as the chain on the front door | To open the window, you need to turn the lever and remove the limiter from the barrel on the window sash |
This stopper is suitable for turn-and-turn sashes and tilt-and-turn sashes. The key is not here. Installs in 5 minutes with a screwdriver and ruler. If you have a screwdriver, you can do it even faster. Be careful: you will need to tighten three self-tapping screws while standing on the windowsill by the open window.
I installed hardware locks on all the windows that I use for ventilation. On the rest of the doors, which I rarely open, I put handles with locks - do not throw away what I bought.

Slider Blank
If you have a lot of windows and a limited budget, you can replace the regular handles on plug sockets. They look like the base of a window handle, but they are more tricky: to open the window, you need to move the cap up and insert the handle.
Sliders are as easy to install as lockable handles. But instead of a small key, there is a massive handle: it is not easy to hide it from children.

The lowest price I have seen is 144 R for a pair of plugs. They come with an adapter for a regular pen. If there is no adapter, you will have to buy a special handle - it costs 390 R. Photo: realt.onliner.byBlock lock
For a tilt-and-turn sash, you can buy a lock that is fastened with screws in the lower part of the window. Such a lock works like an ordinary latch, but when closed, it allows you to tilt the window for ventilation.
Turning sashes can also be equipped with a block lock, but this does not make much sense: in order to open the window, you will have to remove the lock with a key.

The installation process is the most difficult compared to other locks: you need to install the counterpart exactly under the locking element. For this, there is a stylus in the kit.
Locking lock is suitable for windows where the minimum distance between the lower part of the profile and the window sill is 3 cm. This kit costs 264.5 R. Photo from tbmmarket.ruWindow grille
If you need to keep the window open often, do not rely on mosquito nets: they only create the illusion of security. The child can lean on the net and fall out with it.
Window bars are another matter. They come in different types: forged or welded, lightweight metal and made of transparent polycarbonate.
Order lattices for windows:
"Kidstop",
"Stal"
Transparent lattices made of polycarbonate can be purchased at "Polyprotect"
Lightweight metal grating is unlikely to protect against thieves, but will keep children and pets from falling out of the window. Such grilles are attached from the outside to the window frame or the wall of the window opening.
Grilles are usually made to order. Prices start from 1500 R — the wider the opening to be closed, the more expensive the grate. You can install it yourself, but I would recommend entrusting both measurement and installation to specialists.
Metal grating 60 × 90 cm costs 1500 R A per square meter of transparent grating will have to be paid from 6890 RProtection systems comparison

Remember
- If you rent an apartment, arrange this with the landlord before installing protection.
- For windows that are opened frequently, hardware locks and lockable stops are suitable. On the rest of the windows, you can install handles with locks, slider plugs or, again, hardware locks.
- It is better to immediately buy the right number of locks and install them on all windows. If you buy something later, the model you need may not be available or there will be other sets of keys.
Car Seat Accessories Crash Test - Part 1
November 8, 2019
Understanding the safety of car seat accessories. In part 1, ADAC tests for devices that prevent the child from unfastening themselves and releasing from the child seat belts while driving.
What is it about?
Neck pillows, head restraints, inserts for newborn car seats, softening pads for standard seat belts, safety straps in child car seats and many other useful accessories that can make traveling with a child in a car more comfortable. With a certain “stretch”, the sensational, at one time, seat belt adapters can also be attributed to such accessories, although in the case of them, this is no longer an accessory, but a failed attempt to replace a full-fledged restraint.
What is the essence of the problem?
For a long time, experts in the field of child safety cannot agree on how safe all these devices are. Indeed, in fact, we are making changes to the design of the child seat, which were not provided by the manufacturer.
For example:
- systems that prevent the child from opening the belt latch independently can make it difficult to rescue him in the event of an accident
- pillows or restraint straps on the head of a child can lead to increased stress in the event of an accident on the head and neck of the passenger
- tabs in the seat can make it difficult to properly fasten the baby, as well as prevent you from easily removing it in the event of an accident
Etc.
But 90% of such accessories have never been tested before, at least by independent organizations, and the detailed results of internal and voluntary tests of manufacturers, if any, remained a secret with seven seals.
In October 2019, the world-famous organization ADAC conducted a study of several such accessories, and now, at least, it is clear which fears are close to reality and which are groundless.
13 accessories were considered. Result: Caution should be exercised when using car seat accessories, as it can be difficult for non-specialists to assess, for example, whether additional belts, or, say, buckle protection, are approved or not.
Child car seats must be UNECE approved and must not be modified. In some cases, additional accessories are offered that do not comply with the requirements of the regulation. Their use can lead to problems with insurance (* talking about insurance in the EU), or even increase the risk of injury to the child. But there are additional accessories that are legal and useful.
Next, the results of the study will be presented, and the sign " * Comment Avtokresel.net " - our explanations. Within the framework of this article, means will be considered that prevent the child from unfastening himself or slipping out from under the seat belts.
Breast clamps are generally against legal requirements. Because according to the rules, the belt (whether child or adult) must be opened, if necessary, in one operation. This does not apply to 5 Point Plus Anti Escape System, it is acceptable and useful.
5 Point Plus - anti-slip protection system for straps.
Attaches with Velcro to child seat belts. It reduces the gap between the seat belts and the child and is designed to ensure that the child does not slip out of the seat belts with his hands and thus unfasten himself while riding.
In practice, the 5 Point Plus system prevents the child from unintentionally unfastening, but cannot completely prevent this, especially with older children. Therefore, it is necessary to explain to the child the need to buckle up.
Verdict: The 5 Point Plus Anti Escape System is legal. In 2016, a chair equipped with it as standard was tested. In crash tests, no negative effects on loads have been identified. Thus, it is unlikely that the experts could consider this device unacceptable, or "increasing the danger" in an accident.
Additional chest clip
Attaches to the child seat's internal seat belts and connects two of them at the chest area. Designed to ensure that the child does not release his hands from under the seat belts while riding. Older children can perfectly cope with this clip, so the need to fasten it is still necessary to explain!
* Comment Avtokresel.net . An additional strap clip is common primarily in the USA. Firstly, there is no strict requirement of the regulations, or a standard for unfastening the lock with one hand (the procedure itself is not complicated here, but the “one hand” rule is violated), and secondly, in American chairs very often internal straps come either without shoulder pads , or with short overlays. Therefore, this type of clamp is often included in American armchairs in the basic package.
Verdict: Since chair straps are usually equipped with shoulder pads in the chest area, the fastening of such a clip is only possible under the pads (which are too thick to be fixed above). A low mounting reduces the benefit of the clamp, makes it difficult for a child to strap on, and can increase abdominal stress. The peer review of a low-mounted clamp is "increase in danger". Therefore, its use is not recommended.
Storchenbeck Auto Beltlock Stop
A plastic cover that fits over the car's belt buckle. Hides the release button and prevents the child from unfastening while riding. When the cover is in place, the buckle can only be opened through a narrow opening, for example with a key.
Comment Avtokresel.net. Such devices have not yet been seen in Russia. But most likely they will. Here it is difficult to argue with ADAC experts, whose verdict is presented below. Imagine a situation with an accident, serious damage to the car, access may be difficult, it is urgent to get the child out of the car. And in order to unfasten it, you need to find with a certain key a certain slot in a deeply hidden cover. Definitely not.
Verdict: Paragraph 6.2.2 of UNECE Regulation 16 details the requirements for the buckle: it must be easy to handle and must be opened by pressing a button with one simple movement of the hand. The color, minimum area and minimum width of the release button are also specified. Such technical characteristics are intended, in particular, for the quick and easy rescue of passengers after an accident. When using such caps, these requirements are not met and they cannot be used on public roads.
Modern cars are equipped with devices to warn the driver of unfastened seat belts. They inform the driver immediately if the child has unfastened the seat belt in the back seat. If such a system is activated, stop immediately and explain to the child that he should not unfasten while riding.
Buckle guard
This is a fabric cover that attaches to the child seat buckle with Velcro. It covers the release button of the lock and is designed to prevent the child from unfastening while riding. As usual, the system makes self-unfastening difficult, but cannot prevent it, especially with older children.
* Comment Avtokresel.net. Everything is logical here, again, if it is necessary to urgently get the child out of the car in a dangerous situation, especially in conditions of difficult access, any seconds of delay can be costly. The interference is not as brutal as in the previous example, but it is there. It is worth weighing all the risks when purchasing such a device. So far, such people have not been met in Russia, but one must think that they will definitely appear.
Verdict: Clause 7. 2 of UNECE Regulation 44 and 6.71 of UNECE Regulation 129 details the requirements for a buckle: it must be easy to handle and must be able to be opened with one hand. The color, minimum surface area and minimum width of the button are defined there. The only exception is baby carriers, which can simply be removed with the baby. With the fabric lid, the opening button is no longer visible; to access it, you must at least open the lid. In connection with these requirements, such a system can only be used in car seats, "carriers" for newborns. But very young children can’t unfasten the straps anyway, and the benefits here are doubtful. On all other types of chairs, the use of a fabric buckle cover is not allowed.
Our summary: Only one device that protects against slipping out of chair straps turned out to be unconditionally safe - 5 Point Plus Anti Escape System. We can only recommend him directly. But do not forget - it will not protect against unfastening the clasp.
