At age 11, your daughter may already be going through a growth spurt and starting puberty. If not, you probably don’t have long to wait. Hang on -- things are changing rapidly.
Your Daughter’s Body
They’re likely to stand somewhere between 4 and 5 feet tall at this age. Their weight will probably be somewhere between 70 and 100 pounds. But at this age, your daughter has likely entered puberty and is at the peak of a growth spurt. They might grow as much as 4 inches a year during this time.
Their breasts have likely started to develop and they are probably beginning to get both pubic hair and underarm hair. Some girls this age will have their first menstrual period. In general, the taller and heavier a girl is, the earlier puberty will occur.
As they grow, your daughter will likely gain body fat as part of puberty. They might start to get pimples. At the same time, your daughter may still be getting some of their permanent teeth -- particularly the ones toward the back.
During this time, your daughter needs at least an hour of physical activity a day and should be getting 9 to 11 hours of sleep a night.
Time spent watching television or playing with electronic devices should be limited to 2 hours a day or less.
To fuel this growth spurt, their diet should be high in fruit and vegetables and lower in fats, added sugar, and salt. It also should include as much as 3 cups of low-fat or nonfat dairy products a day.
Your Daughter’s Brain
At 11, your daughter’s brain is still developing. They can grasp abstract concepts and is starting to understand shades of gray in the world, rather seeing things in black and white. But they may not fully understand all the consequences of their actions yet.
Their academic performance may be uneven, and their interests could shift, even though their attention span is longer. They may start learning mathematical concepts like variables, ratios, and negative numbers, and start reading books that are more challenging. They might also be reading or writing independently.
Your daughter will also be developing their ability to think logically and solve problems systematically. They should be able to understand and consider others’ points of view.
They should understand how their behavior affects others and have a sense of what’s right and wrong. However, the emotional ups and downs of adolescence may disrupt this process from time to time.
Your Daughter’s Relationships
At 11, your daughter will likely start spending more time with friends and less time with your family. They may start to assert their own identity and push back against your authority, leading to potential conflicts.
At this age, friendships may be based more on shared values and trust rather than just common interests. Having friends among their peers can help them navigate the emotional ups and downs of adolescence. Romantic interest in others might start to emerge around this time.
They might also become more self-conscious about their body at this age and the new awareness they all have at this age. It is important to reassure your daughter that age and progression of puberty is a spectrum and genetics is important. Some of the new awareness is going to be a natural result of the changes they’re undergoing. But sometimes, these concerns can lead to problems like eating disorders and body image issues.
Your daughter might start trying to emphasize their individuality by changing how they dress, what they listen to, watch or read, or how they look. Their friends may offer them a friendly environment to try out new ideas.
However, some girls this age will start to experiment with riskier things, such as substance abuse, smoking, sex, or self-harm. You should discuss the dangers involved in these behaviors with your daughter. If you haven’t had “The Talk” about sex yet, maybe it’s time.
Checklist
At your daughter’s annual medical checkup, your doctor should examine:
- Their height and weight
- Their physical development, including signs of puberty (you should feel free to be present for this part of the exam)
- Any signs of unusual curvature of the spine
- Their vision
- Their immunization records, making sure they're current on vaccinations

Percentiles and What They Mean
Written by Steven Jerome Parker, MD
Q: My baby is small but my pediatric provider says she is "following the curve" so he is not worried. What does that mean? I'm still worried!
A. If your baby is "following the curve" of the growth chart, she's paralleling one of the percentile lines on the chart, and the odds are good that her caloric intake is fine, no matter how much or how little milk she seems to be drinking.
On the other hand, if she is "falling off the curve," she's dipping below two or more percentile lines on the growth chart, and she may have inadequate nutritional intake. This could represent a real problem.
Growth Charts: How They Work
There are separate growth charts for weight, height, and head circumference.
These simply represent the average weight, height, or head circumference of a bunch of normal children. You will see the percentile lines on the chart running parallel to each other. The percentile lines include 5%, 10%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 90%, and 95%. (For more information, see the CDC's web site: www.cdc.gov/growthcharts/).
If a child's weight is at the 50th percentile line, that means that out of 100 normal children her age, 50 will be bigger than she is and 50 smaller. Similarly, if she is in the 75th percentile, that means that she is bigger than 75 children and smaller than only 25, compared with 100 children her age.
What Growth Charts Tell Us
The growth percentiles by themselves don't say much. What really matters is the rate of growth:
- A normal rate of growth means the child's growth points closely follow a percentile line on the chart.
- We usually don't worry about insufficient (or excessive) growth until a child's growth rate has crossed at least two percentile lines (e.g., from above the 90th percentile to below the 50th).
- If a child's weight, height, or head size is below the 5th percentile, it's important to see if her growth points have always paralleled the 5th percentile line -- which would mean her growth rate is normal -- or if she is suddenly falling further behind, which is more concerning.
To see if your child is too skinny or overweight, there is a "weight for height" chart or a "BMI" index. These tell if your child's weight is close to what it should be, given her height.
How to Tell If Growth Could Be a Problem
One of the first signs that a child is not getting enough calories is when her weight increases at a much slower rate than her height and begins to fall below two percentile lines.
- Depending on the extent of the poor caloric intake, the child's height could become "stunted," that is, the height begins descending on the growth chart.
- If the lack of nutrition is severe and continues for an extended period of time, the head growth slows down, indicating that there are not enough calories for the brain to grow at a normal rate.
Similarly, a steady increase in weight, while the child's height increases at a much slower rate, indicates she may be putting too much extra meat on her bones. This can be a good thing or an early sign of a risk of obesity.
Tips:
Put the growth chart into context. No child's growth and development is always so smooth and perfect like the lines of the chart. Kids bounce up and down the growth charts, depending on appetite, feeding issues, illnesses, brief feeding strikes, etc.
Consider other signs of good health. Does your child appear otherwise happy and healthy? Is she making nice developmental progress? If the answers are yes, a problem is less likely.
When to Worry
If your child's growth rate slows down (weight, height, or head size) and she falls below two percentile lines, then you should explore the reason for the poor growth.
Dr. P's Pearl
Don't obsess about every up and down of your infant's growth chart. It's only potentially a problem when there is a persistent downward trend, usually lasting many months.
How to find out how tall a child will be when he grows up: calculator and growth rates

pediatrician
In the first year of life, children literally grow by leaps and bounds hours and grow 25 centimeters by their first birthday. Growth hormone is produced in the endocrine gland, which is located in the brain. This happens when the baby is sleeping, which is why healthy and restful sleep is so important. nine0003
“From one to three years old, a child on average gains 10 centimeters a year,” says pediatrician Marina Fedyushina. - From three to six years, the growth rate decreases: the mark on the stadiometer increases by about 4-5 centimeters. Until the age of 10, there is a slight slowdown, and already from the age of 11 (for girls) and from 13 years (for boys) there is a sharp jump in growth rates. After 40 years, we begin to decrease a little. This is due to fluid loss from the intervertebral discs.”
Place of birth matters
Obviously, growth is due to heredity. It is the genes that determine whether your son will be teased by Gulliver, and your daughter by Thumbelina. Not so simple.
“In 2014, American scientists conducted a large-scale study on the influence of genes on human growth,” says Doctor of Biology Antonina Volkova . - The project was carried out by specialists from 300 institutes, and the number of participants reached 250 thousand people. The experiment proved that human growth is influenced by various gene variations, and there are about 300 hundreds of them. It is important what were your ancestors (not just parents), from whom you got a certain appearance. nine0003
The scientists also found out that the northerners are much taller than the inhabitants of the southern regions. For the first time, the German biologist Karl Bergman told the world about this, he said that a hot climate contributes to a slowdown in growth processes.

Growth Formulas
Doctors have come up with a few simple formulas that can be used to predict where in the ranks your child will stand in physical education classes.
1. The most common formula
Boy height (cm) = (Mother's height + Father's height) * 0. 54 - 4.5 (cm)
Example: (165 + 183) * 0.54 - 4.5 (cm) = 183 .4 (cm)
Girl's height = (mother's height + father's height) * 0.51 - 7.5 (cm)
Example: (159 + 173) * 0.51 - 7.5 (cm) = 161.8 (cm)
2. Dr. John Hawker's formula
An employee of one of the largest private medical centers in the world, the Mayo Clinic, proposed the following calculations:
The boy's height is = (Father's height + Mother's height): 2 + 6.4
Example: (183 + 165): 2 + 6.4 (cm) = 180.4 (cm)
Girl's height = (Father's height + Mother's height): 2 - 6.4
Example: (173 + 159): 2 - 6.4 (cm) = 159.6 (cm)
Boy's height = (Father's height + Mother's height * 1.08): 2
Example: (183 + 165 * 1.08): 2 = 180.6 (cm)
Girl's height father * 0.923 + mother's height): 2
Example: (173* 0.923 + 159): 2 = 159.3

-
malformations of bones.
4. The Smirnov-Gorbunov formula
The authors of the sensational article "Short stature in childhood" Professor Vladimir Smirnov and endocrinologist Gleb Gorbunov also wondered what height a child would have in adulthood. This formula allows an error of as much as 8 cm:
Boy's height = (Father's height + Mother's height + 12.5): 2 ±8
Example: (183 + 165 + 12.5): 2 ±8 = 188.25 (cm) or 172.25 (cm)
Girl's height = (father's height + mother's height - 12.5): 2 ±8
Example: (173 + 159 - 12.5): 2 ±8 = 167.75 (cm) or 151.75 (cm) )
5. The formula for the growth of a child per year
According to the World Health Organization, the normal height of a one-year-old boy is considered to be from 71 to 80.5 cm, for girls - from 68.9 to 79.2 cm. If you want to know what will be your baby by the age of 20, it is necessary to add 100 cm (for a boy) and 95 (for a girl) to the height that the baby reached at 12 months. nine0003
Based on this formula, boys can only grow to 180. 5 cm and girls to 174.2. How then to be with Ivan Urgant, who has reached a height of 195 cm?
Professional sports can also change appearance. If you don’t want a modeling career for your child, then feel free to give it to gymnastics: a serious load on the joints and bones, spinal injuries contribute to problems with the development of the skeleton, children grow poorly. Although the famous gymnast Laysan Utyasheva has grown to 167 centimeters, this is quite a normal height for a girl. But swimming, football, hockey, tennis, volleyball will allow you to become taller, faster and stronger. nine0003
Pediatricians themselves do not particularly trust these methods of calculating height.
“There will always be errors,” continues Marina Fedyushina. - The growth rate, in addition to heredity, is influenced by various factors. First of all, this, of course, is the state of the endocrine glands. Do not discount nutrition and lifestyle. Lack of vitamins, smoking and alcohol slow down the growth of a child»

Is there any test to accurately determine adult height? With a probability close to 100%? I really need to know if my son will grow as it turns out according to all growth tables 179-181cm or he will be about 190 or even higher, as the trainers say. Maybe there are some tests to assess future growth, for example, a long shin, long legs - height in adulthood is exactly above 186
, our trainers determine with an accuracy of 3-5 cm and special statistics have been kept for more than 70 years. Do you really need tall height? nine0003
Being tall is very beautiful, but not suitable for singles skating 3 coaches (juniors and seniors) said that he is very tall and has very long legs, that it is very difficult to jump with such legs and advised him to dance. They went... Sasha was immediately taken, they said that he was definitely a dancer with such legs, he would grow 186 and higher. and I’m afraid that if we go dancing now, and he doesn’t grow above 180 (now he is only 142 cm tall, he is 10 years old), then what kind of dancer he is, it turns out that they have been practicing in vain for so many years. You can't go back to solitary nine0003
Does he have someone to be 190? I would follow my dad. If the child was not originally born and grows tall, but of average height, and the father is of average height, then the probability of only 2 percent, probably, will grow high. And the legs have nothing to do with it. I know a lot of short men up to 175 cm, with long legs in proportion to the body, a kind of grasshoppers. And vice versa, my husband, with a height of 195, has by no means long legs, the trousers are all suitable for a height of 185. And the eldest son grows with the same build, he was originally born tall, grows tall, and his legs are short. I am sure that he will grow no less than dad. nine0003
father 186 cm, long legs. My grandfather is about 2 meters (dad's father), dad is 168, my sister is 178, I am 168. So I don’t know who my son is.
definitely not possible
http://children.webmd.com/healthtool-kids-height-predictor
It is extremely unlikely that you will be taller than your father, also depends on your height and the weight of the child now. If you underfeed, then it will enter the norms of figure skating
179.8 turned out ... now the weight is 27 kg. nine0003
about 184
eh, I can't open the link...
high... so the dances are all right
What to write where? I don't know English... I'm writing my father's height 1m 86cm, he writes, as I understand it - a mistake, or something like that... TELL ME!!! also interesting!
there it is necessary to convert the height into feet
And unfortunately it doesn’t open for me. It would also be interesting ......
and how to do it?
although, my indicated height, he transferred himself, but my husband did not ...
http://www.usa.ru/us2mtric1.html
If it's easy for you, do it for me!!!
My height is 156, my husband is 186, re 125 he is 6.5 years old (although already 6. 9, can I write that 7???), 23 kg
Thank you!
also, who cares, but it didn't open
This one in centimeters and kg
http://www.bloodindex.org/Childrens_Adult_Height_Prediction_Calculator.php
I got 170
Oh, thank you, great!
but according to where it is not necessary to translate 185 it turned out ...
The evaluation formula is: (father's height + mother's height)/2 and +6.5 for a boy or -6.5 for a girl. But in reality, no one can predict for sure, there may be deviations both larger and smaller.
Thank you! And in the second it turned out 180! garbage, probably ...
well, yes ... I just indicated the age of 7 years there ... son 6.9
metric translation errors probably
and the older the child, the more likely the calculation
is not for nothing
think that children of the same parents simply cannot be absolutely the same height, even same-sex!!! nine0003
thank you! This is also a sore subject for me. I'm afraid that my daughter is not too tall. according to this table, 182 comes out, and then who knows how it will be ...
Yes, according to this formula, I should have a height of 169, but in reality 164 ... It is difficult to predict anything at all, even tall parents can be short children, and vice versa, because the growth of grandparents or other relatives can still play a role.
as well as full-term and prematurity
Dad 186, you are 168, and even with high heredity, and you still think?? 100% that would be a minimum of 185 cm, I think higher, around 190 once. Time from childhood does not lag behind in growth.
Your situation is fairly easy to predict. It is rare that there are situations when the height of the parents is not determining. With me, for example, no one would have predicted that my father, 174 tall, and my mother, 160 tall, would produce me 173 tall. But from my childhood it was clear that I was always a head taller than my peers, only at the age of 14 she stopped. My brother grew up to 183. So the genes have developed. But we, I repeat, have always been high. But the brother's son grew to only 175, which was predictable, since the brother's wife is only 152 cm tall, and the nephew has always been small. nine0003
as well as growth hormone production, calcium absorption, diseases during the growth period ... yes, many factors.
Yo! The son turned out 192! MILFs
"If the child was not originally born and grows tall, but of average height, and the father is of average height, then the probability is only a percentage" - I don’t know, maybe my brother really fell into these 2%, but until the 9th grade from birth he was literally the most small always and everywhere, the physical education teacher, as I remember now, all lamented how a man could be so small. Our dad is 178 cm, mom is 170, as a result, from the 10th grade, he started to grow, and now he has 188 cm. That's who? nine0003
and now exclaim "there is no one at all" )))))))))))) normal growth
Yes, I'm happy. True, there are problems with pants already now
Such a case is precisely these 2%. It happens very rarely. Here, my brother, with dad 174 and mom 160, also had no one to grow into 183, but nevertheless he grew up. But it was immediately noticeable for us, I already wrote, they were always head and shoulders above their peers.
I also know an interesting case, my classmate. He has a dwarf mom, 140 cm tall, and a dad of average height, about 175 cm. A classmate was always even taller than me. So, although I stopped later at the age of 15 at a height of 177, I consider it an interesting case. nine0003
Both girls 167 turned out for me, although the older one is much longer than the younger one in life. Well, it would be nice like that - enough for our family of clients of the "Big People" store, let at least two girls dress in the mass market, otherwise what a joy from this high growth - neither pick up clothes, nor a man in height)))
My parents are 156 and 172, I am 170, my brother is 186 was small and strong. And now such a shaft Both cousins are at least half a head taller than their parents. Yes, and among acquaintances, sons are somehow taller than their parents. With girls, more or less corresponds to the average
As for the author, if my son likes single skating, I would leave him there. You never know what the coaches are talking about the future. If he grows up too much, he himself will feel that he has reached the maximum and will go where he will be interested, at least in the same dances.
According to this formula, my height should be 176, which generally corresponds to reality, but my brother should be 189, and he has 195 in real life ))))))))))) we have a mother 175, father 190 Between by the way, high growth is a recessively inherited trait, i.e. can "crawl out" in an unexpected place, and everyone will wonder - whoever it is
Are you tall? That's it. I would like to be taller. The husband from 195 also only rejoices. And the husband's sister does not suffer from 180.
These formulas, in my opinion, are fortune-telling on the coffee grounds, I don't have a single example that even closely converges. For some reason, the boy's height is always written below the height of his father, but in life, it is often the other way around.
Exactly, what is very often higher than the parents, since the food is better now, I don’t know yet what. So the author's child should at least catch up with his father up to 186. nine0003
And such examples, when the parents are small, the child is small throughout childhood, and then suddenly, as a teenager, begins to grow to a tall stature, are still very rare. It happens that the parents are tall, the child is small, and then begins to grow. These are often.
I should have a height of 165.5, but actually 174 cm Such a good error. And my brother would not refuse to lose five cm - he only sews trousers to order. nine0003
Acceleration)))
today on the line I saw that almost all the boys are shorter than me ... the girls are all huge, almost all of them are taller and generally larger decently, and the boys are 15 cm shorter, only 3 are a little higher and 2 of the same height. and according to the plates, his average height of 142 at 10 years old is not even higher than average and his height was always in the column with average height .. we have big problems with food, he never has lunch, he only eats in the morning and in the evening, a sandwich for lunch. our schedule is such that we get up at 4.30, go to the skating rink by 7, then go to school, then go to the rink for 2 training, at 7 o'clock he is at home and then he eats. it weighs 26.700. nine0003
My husband is the same height, I have never had a problem buying trousers.
Jeans are all sewn in different lengths, and suit trousers in good stores were not initially hemmed, I think there is enough stock for a length of up to 2 m.
strange, I'm 176 cm, the size is between 44 and 46, well, there has never been a case when something didn't fit me in height ... or I just don't remember?
The eldest son is 19 years old, the youngest is 6. Dad's height is 176, my height is 1.58. The eldest son at 19 - 1.90 - was born 55 cm - from early childhood he overtook his peers in height - he was the tallest in the kindergarten, he was always the first in the class in physical education, now who sees us next to each other they are surprised where such a small mother has such a tall son) ) The youngest was born 50 cm, he was always a little BELOW than his peers - at his six years old he is at the lower limit of the normal height - I suspect that he will not be tall. nine0003
I don't think it's possible to accurately predict adult growth - there are too many complex processes involved. I will add that all the grandparents of the older child are very short - no one knows why he grew up so much))
What about Leysacek? Became a champion!
oh! 195 out! dear mother
If you feed well, don't even hesitate, you will grow 186 and more.
My youngest was also born smaller than the oldest and is growing smaller, slightly above average. So I'm sure it will be lower than the oldest, but if one is 195, and the second 190, that will suit me too.
so it's America, not Russia They don't label 10-year-olds there, but here long legs at 10 means a dancer and that's it
Hmm, I didn't think about that. As we had a scoop in sports, it remained so. I hoped that it became more democratic, given that FC is an expensive pleasure ... And you have a very foldable and handsome son, I would not be so upset, dancing, so dancing, if only there was health.
Thank you very much Yes, I have almost come to terms with these dances .. Yesterday I talked with another dance coach, he said not to twitch, he is still too small for dancing, in 2 years you can see what growth will be, but for now he does not see that growth will be very tall and 12 years old is more suitable age for dancing. In general, we will not be late anywhere if we move on at 12 nine0003
A rare example)) - sister 158 cm, her husband 175. Nephew did not grow up tall, such an average child, he went to school at the age of 7 with a height of 120 cm. Now he is 17 years old, height is 193 cm. nonsense, to believe in some signs there, growth is an unpredictable thing. Let's say my mother is 160. my father is 170, and in me 175. Well, where can I use the plates here? nine0003
I don't believe in signs. But last year there was a program on NTV, something about sports and sports medicine, where the gymnasts took blood from the girl, conducted some tests and said, based on the results, that with a probability close to 99% she would be of such and such a height and weight during in adulthood, which muscle fibers predominate. I am interested in this analysis, where it can be done. Maybe someone knows ..
one of my acquaintances has small mom and dad, his younger (10 years younger) brother is 180, and he himself is 162 cm.
